This does not meet your requirements as it costs more than $20 but Mcafee has a setting to put all security on high and never alert you ever again.

So you truly have to like and love your pc exactly the way it is now with no more upgrades or software installs.

So I've tried Avast, AVG, Panda, and Avira. All of them have this annoying tendency to barrage me with popups and change my search engine to yahoo.

Are there any good unintrusive antivirus programs out there? I'm also not willing to pay more than $20.

I have tried Avast Free which has been working really well with Windows XP it's fast and i've not had ant pop ups.

@OP - I haven't had problems with search engine changes with the common AV sw like Avast/Avira/AVG/etc, you just have to keep your eyes open and untick the checkbox instead of clicking ok without reading the fine print.

I think the ad popups will start after the first week.
