They get insurance and then cancel it right away.
Thats why cops usually check when they pull you over.


Problem is, the cops don't know the car insurance information you provide them has been canceled. That's information they don't have.

It shows up when you run the plates on a car. Gives you the company and the company code. Most cops check for the card as well. Not having the card can net you a summons as well.

One question... how do you get your car to->from the DEQ if your registration has expired ? isn't simply driving it there to be tested a violation of the law ?

Ohio doesn't even make you show proof of insurance to register your car. They just make you sign a piece of paper saying you will keep insurance on it. I've lapsed before they don't notify the DMV. You just have to worry about being pulled over. Its easy to get away with.

My friend just hit someone without insurance. She lied to the cop about having insurance and got away with it. Just has to pay out of pocket to the person she hit.

Ohio does random checks via mail. Then you need to fax them proof of insurance or they revoke your registration.
