Uninstalling Windows XP

Hello!

I used to use a Windows XP Professional version until about 6 months back. I have installed it on C: (I'm not so sure about this, but i think that is the primary drive or something?).

Recently around january, I bought a windows 7 pack and as I had heard negative comments about it, I did not upgrade Windows XP, but instead I installed windows 7 on G:

Now I want to know if it is safe to uninstall Windows XP from C: (As I heard that since it was the primary OS on the computer, the boot screen won't load if i uninstall it!?)

I am really sorry, I do not know much about the operating system and its working in this fashion.

Please help me,

Thank you.

In Summary

- Windows XP installed on C: (Which I do not even bother to touch anymore)
- Windows 7 installed on G: (Which I always use)
- Safe to uninstall Windows XP?

All you need to do is select the start up OS as windows 7 and then change the system start up time for windows 7 to 1 second. This can be found under advanced system settings in system properties. After this you can get rid of XP by just formatting that drive/partition. The best way is to ghost your windows 7 drive and then format the c and g drives and slap the ghost image of windows 7 on your c drive. Either way you can't lose. It hasn't failed me yet. good luck.

It has been several years since I have setup/modified a dual-boot system so my memory could be off. Your suggestion of restoring the ghost image onto the C: drive may not work as you think.

First all, all the programs that were installed under Windows 7 will be pointing to the G:\ partition in the registry. Restoring the ghost image will not automatically change that back to C:\. Secondly, the OP would more than likely have to edit the bcedit file before restoring the ghost image onto C: as the current setup will reference XP (as C: drive) and Win 7 (as G: drive).

It used to be a lot simple back in the "old" days with Win98 and W2K. Now with Windows 7 there's a few more hurdles you have to jump through.

A quick Google search, turned up one of these.....

http://www.pcworld.com/article/183282/remove_a_windows_7_dual_boot_part_ii.html

There's probably some other articles (or websites) that you could find. You can explore some of these other search results at your leisure.
