Is it possible to uninstall SP2 from 2k?? I am asking this because after I installed it, 2k took 5 minues to boot up. I then had ATAPI errors about something. It might be my hard drive, but I am not sure. If you want more information, LMK.

when you applied the service pack, as long as you checked the box that said "backup files necessary to uninstall" then you should see it show up in the add/remove programs under control panel (or look for "servicepackuninstall" or a similar folder in your win2k directory and there is probably an uninstall.exe or something similar)

yup. if you checked the box to backup old files you can uninstall it in the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS setup.

well, does it CONSISTENTLY take longer to boot up? or was it just longer IMMEDIATELY after install sp2? because after you install sp2, it reboots and then continues to install....so that's why it would appear to taking longer...

The first time I did the install, I canceled it before it downloaded more than 10k. So when I ran it today, it told me to reboot. So I did and nothing seemed to be wrong. Then I ran the setup for SP2 and it backed up the files, downloaded, and installed. Then I rebooted and it took forever to startup. The blue bar @ the startup screen filled up and it still was trying to load something. So I thought it was that my cdroms were set to PIO, so I set them DMA and it took even longer to boot. It takes about 5 minutes to boot the PC AFTER doing the SP2 install. COuld someone explain this to me? I think I am just going to reformat tonight and TRY to put XP on here. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!

The only multimedia device is the onboard SiS 735 sound "card." I think I am going to swap out this hard drive and then put in an empty one and disable both lan and audio and try to install XP. WISH ME LUCK!!!

well, sounds like an IDE controller error, not a cd-rom or hard drive error.

what mobo do you have? do you have an ata100 controller onboard?

if so, maybe you need to download new IDE drivers

I have the ECS K7S5A mobo with SP2 installed under 2000. This error only showed up after I installed SP2. Should I download an update for the IDE??

well, i'm not too familiar with that mobo, but if you CAN find some sort of update, that would be my suggestion.

This is exactly what I'm getting, and I'm running on an epox 8k7a. I get about 11 progress bars for 45 seconds, then it continues. At first I thought it was the via 4-in-1 drivers, but now I am thinking it may be sp2!

My ATAPI errors are sporadic, but the bootup always takes a long time. Even when the event log contains no errors or warnings.

If you solve the problem, please post the solution! Thanks.

Boot from the CD and choose the Repair option. After that you need to do a manual repair I think, not the Recovery Console option. This will restore the installation back to its original configuration, but keeping your user and groups setup.

After you get this fixed, do yourselves a favor and download the Network Install copy. Yeah, its a lot bigger (103mb or so) but you probably wont be able to get into this same situation again.

It sounds like your original install didn't complete and left you with a lot of missing or corrupt files. The repair feature was made to fix that.
