Hey im going ot uninstall red hat and then insall gentoo cause ive heard good things about it and want to give it a try. Is there anything i have to do specifically to uninstall redhat? Im dual booting red hat and xp pro if that helps

can i just install gentoo over red hat? is there a way i can jsut have gentoo format the partition that redhat is on and just go from there or will i ahve to go through the whole process of using partition magic and refomatting and then installing gentoo etc?

also i know that bootloaders can be a problem, ive had to reinstall windows multiple times, but i dont know how to avoid messing them up

I've done it with other distros, so my guess is that you can just install gentoo over RedHat. I've never installed gentoo though. 😛

The only thing you should be using partition magic is resizing partitions.

AS far as that goes, just reformat the partitions that the OS is on. That deletes them pretty much then just install Gentoo on them. If you are happy with the sizes of the partitions, then you don't have to mess with them.
