Ok, I'm a NOOB when it comes to ATI cards. I currently have a rig with a 7800gtx and just bought a x1900xtx.

Do I first un-install the nVidia drivers, remove the card, put in new cards and then install the ATI drivers? What are the proper steps? Thanks!!

Yes, that sounds about right. Also may want to use driver cleaner to remove whatever the NV drivers leave behind after the uninstall.

Sounds like you have it right.

What I do *Probibly overkill* is, after uninstalling the drivers from control panel I will reboot into safe mode and run driver cleaner. Then shut down, replace card, install new drivers.

I'll be doing the same thing soon. Replacing 6800 card with x1900xt. My plan is a complete hdd reformat and windows install. :D

Ok fellows, a couple more questions about doing this:

1. When I go to control panel / add remove programs and select nVidia drivers, it gives me the option to

- Remove all NVIDIA drivers, including Display
- Remove all NVIDIA drivers, except Display

Which do I choose? If I choose "including Display", will I have a hard time rebooting and seeing any screen?

2. For the ATI drivers, can someone tell me what the latest ATI drivers are and where I can download them?

Thanks all !!!

if you remove the display drivers, then Window's standard software-run drivers will be enabled. So inother words, you should have no problems.

Thanks. And now for the dumbest question of all. When using Driver Cleaner Pro - I'm assuming I need to do this in safe mode? How do I boot into safe mode in Windows XP (told you it was a dumb question). Thanks!!

Heh .. reboot computer .. after the bios data, start pressing F8 .. you should then get an option to boot in different modes
