Uninstallers how do they work

Uninstallers like Revo Uninstaller Pro and Total Uninstall can monitor application installs I know but my question is how does this work if you go to upgrade a program after monitors the install ?

Say you monitor the install of Firefox 45.01 on release and a month later or whenever you upgrade to Firefox 46.01 do you have to monitor the Firefox install again ?

Perhaps run the original monitor uninstall and then the subsequent uninstallers from the online database if they are available. Or just get in the habit of clean installing new versions and then restoring any program settings you may have.

I don't use the pro version of Revo. All it does is look in the install directory and removes everything and looks in the registry.
