yeah it's in the registry, but you can just open a folder and go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types and set it up.

assuming windows xp

IE pwns j00! :p

Open a Windows Explorer window, go to Tools -> Folder Options
Click the File Types tab
in the list, find the URL files, and click 'Advanced'
If there isn't an open command, click new, otherwise double click the open
Use this for the command: rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l
Check the Use DDE box
Enter shdocvw on the Application line
Enter System on the Topic line
Hit OK
Select the Open command, and the click "Set Default"
Hit OK all the way out

Lemme know if that works for ya.

Ah, he said shortcuts to HTML, and I was thinking website shortcuts.

In anycase, you should he should be able to use the same instructions, just substitute the URL for HTM and HTML. :)

You might want to think about keeping IE around. I still run across things here and there that don't work with firefox.

How did you uninstall IE without killing your system? Don't help files and lots of other things still rely on IE?

Well, one can't uninstall IE completely with XP. If you "uninstall" through the add/delete windows components thing, it just removes it from the desktop. And so far, I haven't run across anything Firefox can't handle. What are some things Firefox can't handle? I managed to figure out the solution to the problem. I just went into "set program access and defaults" and now everything works. Pretty funny though that out of all the things XP could have chosen to open up an html file, it chose printer. Wow. Impressive.

I've had problems with Java-based sites, like Yahoo Games and my work's webmail. Is there an extension I can d/l to handle them?
