How can I uninstall Media Player 8 from XP? I went under add/remove programs and it is not listed. I also looked under window components but it is not there either.

Thanks

You can't uninstall WMP8 under WinXP.

You can still run WMP6.4, since that is still included with the OS. Find it under the Program Files\Windows Media Player folder.

As AndyHui said, you can't uninstall it... welcome to the wonderful world of Microsoft, where software you don't want gets shoved down your throat anyway. :|

You can always remove the shortcuts and fool yourself into thinking it's uninstalled...

Actually you can get rid of it by booting into safe mode and deleting the folder in program files. After doing this it was my experience that the only way to get it back was to run a repair on the system or use the setup file i had copied from the folder in program files. After rebooting into normal mode if I clicked on a media file the os would automatically put a mediaplayer8 folder back in program files but this folder would be empty and none of the shortcuts would work. Trying it again to make sure :)

Ya that got rid of it. If you do this just make sure to back up the setup file for it if you ever WANT it back on your system without having to do a repair. Hummm, wonder why people are saying you can't get rid of it? Ohhh, it may be nessessarryyyyy to log into safe mode as admin to remove that folder, i did and didn't try as just user. L8

Just want people to know that it is possible to "remove" media player 8 from your system. Though the other two guys here are right, you can't "uninstall" it.
