Uniden WNR2004 issues.

I received my unit yesterday and have yet to get it to successfully connect to Verizon DSL. This unit is replacing my wired 3com 3c510 router that has been working fine. I have cloned the 3com MAC, flashed from the original firmware (1.05) to the latest (1.08) and back-rev?d to 1.07. I even tested the username/password by setting up a PPPoE dialup connection in XP and it works fine. Ethernet cable being used is the supplied cable that came with the 2004. Cable is the same one that is being used successfully with the 3com. If I use DHCP, the 2004 will pull an IP from the 3com(did this to test to make sure the WAN port was able to communicate). Red light is always shown when the wan of the 2004 is connected directly to the Westell modem. Both the Westell and the 2004 have been reset during tests and the 2004 has been rebooted multiple times. Wired and wireless devices are able to pull IPs from the 2004?s DHCP. The only setting I can find different between the 3com and the 2004 is the 3com allows you to set an optional Service name in it?s setup which I have set to be Verizon. Case sensitive username/password has been tested.

Anyone use this and have issues with PPPoe? I would really like to make this my main router.
 
Did you power cycle the modem and Uniden router after connecting them together? When I move a new router onto my cable modem, I have to cycle the modem to get a connection.
 
A freind of mine just got the same router. He couldn't get it to connect either. I went to his house and he showed me everthing he did to connect to verizon DSL, everything was set-up O.K., but he forgot to hit connect now on the status page. After we hit connect now, he was connected. Did you maybe miss that screen?
 
Just checked over it's admin pages, no connect button found. Any chance you can show me where or even give me a screen shot?
 
On page 42 of the user guide is the info you seek, it's a PDF file on the cd that came with the router. Under configuring for PPPoE support. There you can see a "STATUS" button, just klick on it when you entered in all the info required. There you will find the "Connect" button. Let me know if this helps.
 
Ok...found the status button on the PPPoE page. Rather weird that it doesn't automatically connect. I hope they fix this in a later firmware, that can get annoying during power losses.

Anyway, after using the connect i was able to pull an ip but needed to reboot both devices a few times to ping/surf. Still my WAN status light is red. I would think this is normal, but when it was pulling DHCP, the status light was green.

I guess what aint broke, don't fix it. But if anyone has any info, that would be great.

 
Glad I was able to help. Here are some more tips. We set the Keep-Alive (LCP) to "ENABLE" and 30 seconds. The Dial-On Demand was set to "DISABLE". With this configuration it is an always-on connection to the internet, even if the power goes out, the router remembers it's previous state. He has the Westell 2200 DSL modem, it had to be set to bridge mode before he connected it to the Uniden router, since the Westell 2200 is also a router. Two routers on the same network just don't get along! This might be why you have to reboot several times before it works.

Cause I am going from a wired router to a wired/wireless router. I really didn't want to use both if I didn't need to.

Will fix those settings tonight when I get home. My westell is just a plain modem, so no worries about it conflicting. Also the reason i wanted to nix the 3com so I don't have all these issues with conflicting routers. Ah well, it seems to be working now (even with the red indicator). I guess that is all i can ask. I just hope uniden comes out with a better firmware soon.
