I did a good deed last week by finding and returning a rather expensive Notebook Computer which was stolen from a Office Building a few blocks away from my home. It was fully loaded with all the latest gadgets, and I estimate it was worth about $3000, and it looked brand new!

I noticed there was a ID Sticker on the bottom, so I phone them up. They said they will send someone over to pick it up - and that they did. But I was rather miffed when I didn't even receive as much as a "Thank You". What a bunch of ungrateful Bas%*#*!.

Not everyone is as honest as I. Most people would of kept it for themselves, and next time they may not be as lucky. Oh well.

*** UPDATE ***

A couple of days ago I received a 'Thank you' card in the mail, along with a couple of $25 gift certificates for a local eatery. A nice touch. Better than a kick in the head. :)

At least you know you did the right thing. Forget them and get on with life.

I know. Especially when my fellow coworker was offering me $500 cash for it. :(

You ought to have gotten at least a "Thank you", but you did the right thing. Good for you.

It's nice to know there are some honest people out there.

I'm not sure if I could've brought myself into giving back a laptop I found though :(

an unmarked laptop? i'd probably keep it. unless i found it here at school. too many poor students, i couldn't keep it knowing someone out there would have to drop another 3 grand to replace it. so i'd try to find the owner.

but since it was clearly marked, i'd feel obligated to return it. you did the right thing.

Its just like when you kindly yield for someone, when you don't have to, and the bastard doesn't give the obligatory thank you wave. Bastards.

Virtue is it's only reward, but what a reward. People who keep what isn't theirs do so because they are inwardly small. And even though they don't see it, it's still true. You are a tribute to the people who helped form your character. Thanks for returning that computer.

That sucks! I would've kept it. Nice to know there are people like you in real world. :)

Wow,some people are ignorant to what could have been. Does that guy not realize how lucky he was that it was YOU who found that computer and not someone like myself who would have kept it costing him 3k? You are a better man then I and you deserve to be rewarded.

Some people act like it is your obligation to return their property to them if you find it in public. It may be legally wrong to keep in some situations but who would know the difference. Sh*t,I would have brought it to a police station the next town over after scratching the serial #'s off of it so even if someone claimed it they have no proof its theirs. After a week or two you get to keep it legallyif its not claimed.

Oh well, that guys just lucky I didn't find it.

When you do something like this, it's nice if the person says thank you,
but to expect them to do so, and then to get upset over their not doing it...

Well hendon, think of that next time something expensive is lost or stolen from you and not returned. Or better yet think of something being returned to you. Maybe that person wasted five or ten bucks in gas bringing your belongings back to you,and you don't thank them? Should they be pissed?

If you wasted gas or even just time you don't expect at least a thank you? YEA RIGHT!!
I would sure as hell expect a thank you.

Kudos Rudee, what a nice guy you are. Remember, being nice is feeling good about yourself, most genuine kind acts go unnoticed :)

btwi wish i could give you a 10 rating if you had your profile enabled.

having a $3500 laptop myself, i'd be very relieved if someone returned it to me. in fact, i'd probably find a way to give a reward. but, since i didn't lose my laptop, sorry rudee, i can't reward you. hehe..
good job though! hope you get a reward or, at LEAST a thank you card.

It's worth $500 to have your conscience intact. That, if nothing else, made it worth it.
