Did anyone catch the Ken Burns documentary on Jack Johnson the past two nights on pbs? Excellent storytelling once again by the same guy who did the huge baseball, jazz, & civil war titles. Very detailed & dramatic history on the first black heavyweight champion. The racism was intense, but Johnson's spirit up until the end was even stronger. My favorite part was how he was constantly being pulled over for speeding. He received a $50 fine & gave the guy a $100. When the guy said he couldn't give change for that amount, he said it was ok, "I'm coming back the same way". :) Both episodes replay back to back this saturday at 3pm incase you forgot about it.

Caught a lot of it last night on PBS HD.

Very interesting, and some damn old video footage.

I'm interested in reading his autobiography, I wonder how hard it would be to find (they said it basically went nowhere).

I recorded this, looks interesting. I've only seen a few ESPN Classic specials on him. So is it more about his life outside boxing?

Alot. Hookers, fast cars, racism, depression, laughs & cries, suicide & freedom.
