I personally know 3 people under the age of 40 who are on disability (permanent).

1) Is an overweight chick who has worked maybe 1 week in her entire life. Has no problem smoking a pack or two a day of cigs, and drinking. But will not work. Her problem: Thyroid problems resulting her in her being overweight and not able to work.

2) Is another chick who was extremely overweight but luckily had gastric bypass and lost a a ton. But she can't work because she has "panic attacks."

3) Is a guy who got on disability for "panic attacks" (I probably told him about #2 years back) and laughs about it to me every time we speak.

Easy to fake panic attacks when there is nothing a doctor can check for.

(this is a public service announcement for all those who want to stop working for the rest of your life... Maybe if everybody does this, then the system will fail and we can reboot it)

It's a great ploy.... Years ago we could declare people mentally unfit and put them in a mental institution which takes them out of the voting pool.

Nowadays we simply write them checks for $1000 / month and hand them a democrat voting ticket.

How much does disability pay?
If you're a conservative - too much.
If you're a liberal - too little.

Regardless, the program is not sustainable. Along with the majority of other social programs we provide for citizens and non-citizens alike.

If you're a conservative - you know this.
If you're a liberal - you also know this but are in denial.

The exponential increase in disability determinations should be worrisome to all. But we are too divided to agree on anything. Our leaders are looking for votes. Whichever side can convince the recipients that the benefits are coming from them pictures themselves as the winner.

Why do you think obama wanted an unlimited debt ceiling?

As long as the federal reserve can print money, and as long as the federal government keeps raising the debt ceiling, the programs are sustainable.

I can relate...I blew out my knees working construction...kept working. Blew out my back at work (in part because of the FUBAR'd knees)...doctors took me off work...permanently.
I haven't worked since December 2003.
I finally filed for SSDI last year. Still waiting for the decision.

Hang in there. If it's any consolation, when I got my quick approval, my SS advisor said that quick approval usually means most extreme disability. I was in the hospital with brain surgery when the approval came through.

Hope you get approved soon, and hope for your sake you retain enough abilities to be comfortable.

There needs to come a point in time where we say enough is enough. People won't be dying on the streets if they don't get their disability check, even if they are the few who actually really need it.

When did government replace family, neighbors and charity for those in need ?

When those things were incapable of doing it.
