Unexplained vehicle stalling for your FORD cars?

There is a known problem with Dearborn trash, er... Ford / Merc. vehicles made from 1983-1995 affecting millions of cars for which there is no current recall. Check out the list.

Mine died on the highway the other day and we almost got killed. Odds are this affects some folks here.

Okay, I'll start it off:

o great my crap a$$ tempo is on that list. its never stalled onme on the highway or while moving. it has stalled a cople times at stop signe for no reason. i just started it back up and it worked fine for the rest of the time i was using it. hopefully noithingbad comes of this
 
Yeah, my dad's old '86 Tempo used to stall quite a bit, but fortunately only in certain conditions (extremely damp, or around 0 celsius). So its not really unexplained, but still gay. Then my mom's 1990 Tempo for no reason would frequently refuse to go in reverse...but thats another story...
 
Oh.. since you've had a problem with your one single Ford and your one-single close-minded opinion from all your years of experience dealing with all makes and models of cars leads you to believe that all Fords are crap enough so that you advertise that opinion in a public forum, I'll scrap my 1997 Ford Tbird that I absolutely love and have had very few problems with and get whatever type of car you recommend because personal style and taste does not apply when your opinion is stated.

Yes but this is when big companies get me angry. Ford knew about this problem in 1985, with internal memos about reducing liabilities and cost control. They also knew about the propensity for their 15 passenger vans to roll over 3 out of 4 times in a 40 mph emergency maneuver which has killed a lot of people, yet did nothing about it. Their plan here is to forestall litigation and eventual forced recall as long as possible until most of the affected vehicles are off the road.

So did you even bother to click on the link, or do you just like to spout off in defense of nothing?
'97 Tbird is NOT on the list.
 
I have to ask, how does stalling pose so much of a risk? Either disengage the clutch and coast to a controlled stop, or put the tranny in neutral and coast to a controlled stop, or leave the tranny in gear and engine brake to a controlled stop. So you lose power assist to brakes and steering, big freakin' deal. If you need power assist, I mean really need it, then you're in no condition to be driving. I've had cars stall on me on the freeway, lose fuel injection to half the cylinders, blow spark plugs out of the head, have front tires blow out, and have rear tires blow out. I've never once had such things upset the vehicle so much that I was unable to maintain proper and safe control over the vehicle.

I don't mean to say that if the problem exists that it's not a serious problem that should be remedied, but it's not exactly as though it's a severe danger. If, in fact, such a problem exists and if, in fact, it is Ford's fault for concealing it, the defect needs to be fixed in a recall.

Yeah, apaprently that happens most often in warm weather.... starts getting warm and starts stallnig out.

My car doesn't do it, but I know of at least one car that does.

Exactly, my father had a Ford Windstar '99 and it would stall quite often, sometimes while braking to a stop, sometimes while trying to make a turn or trying to accelerate from a stop. Very annoying... it was always in a stop and go situation, never on a highway I believe. Oh and he went to the dealer to complain and he took it for a drive (or someone there did) and came up with no problems and got a tune up but the problem persisted. After a major car accident (unrelated to the stalling problem, stupid truck driver didn't brake enough and smashed into the rear) my parents got a Honda Odyssey (sp?). Nice car and just about no problems at all (been 6 months).

my tfi module was recalled... i have no idea if its been replaced or not... my car almost stalls every once in a while but i attribute that to the damn just-about-to-fall-apart transmission.

Actually, other than the tire blowouts (which were "Multi-Mile" brand cheapo tires on a Honda), the car with the problems is a Porsche. And no, I've not stalled in an intersection. I overlooked that. Sorry.
