Instead of pooh poohing the number, UM2001, why don't you perhaps spend some time re-visiting all those companies you applied to in the past? Work on your network? Do some creative job searches?
I doubt many employers troll the AT&N forum looking for disgruntled unemployed potential workers.

But the hard-hit manufacturing sector actually shed jobs in October 24,000 and it was the 37th consecutive month of declines in that area. The pace of job loss, however, has slowed considerably.
I hope this hiring boom extends to this sector VERY quickly. Because without a strong manufacturing sector, these little gains in new payroll, will drop right back off after the holidays are over. I know those of you that don't live in Michigan can't feel for how stagnant "our" economy is, but manufacturing is pretty much the keystone in Michigan's economy. Most people I know in this sector in SE Michigan are or have been unemployed for some time now. Consequently, when Joe Blow looses his job on the line at Ford Motor.... it is not too far away when Joe Whitecoller who designs the body on the new Ford F150 looses his job as well. We have already seen this happening. So while it is exciting to hear the temporary and retail jobs are boosting these numbers right now (which is actually quite common before the Christmas season) really only means 2 things, Jack and $hit. And Jack just left town.

I don't think that statement was wrong, crude perhaps, but right on the mark. Manufacturing is dying a slow death in the US. It'll be to their own advantage for people in those fields to retrain for something else before their job is gone.

Actually no you are a prime example...or atleast your words are. You sit here and blubber on and on about how "bad" it is and poo poo any good news(and there has been alot lately) coming on the economy front. It's good that you took your employment into your own hands and became self employed - but your outward attitude still sucks. I'm glad you don't consider yourself part of the "unemployed" anymore though
![]()
Yes manufacturing got hit and is still struggling, but it is getting better - not perfect - but definately better.
Now again - this thread is about the news that was released this morning - not a place for you to continue to spew your "unemployment" angst. 3 straight months of job gains isn't something to sneer at - especially since the last 2 months have been somewhat decent gains(125K+). But no - your insinuating that these are just "retail" jobs is rediculous as the holiday retail hiring most likely wasn't a factor for sept and probably oct numbers. Oh and looky here(from the article): "October hiring occurred across a broad swath of the business landscape, including technical services, temporary employment firms, health care, social work, education and retail." Yeah must just be the retail holiday boost![]()
Everyone shares your "concern" about the manufacturing sector and it has shown that it is heading in the right direction. And yes Michigan got hit pretty hard because they are dominated by heavy industry. Their fortune will change though - things are looking better daily.
Oh and one more thing - take your little "sensitive" comment and shove it. You and Bowfinger aren't the arbiters of "compassion" or "sensitivity" - Tom Daschle is.

You and others that look and smell like you always post these "wonderful" unemployment figures and think that means something at all. It has been pointed out to you and others oddly and smuggishly similar to you that drops in new unemployment claims and the creation of a few temporary-non benefit paying jobs are going to do little to bolster this economy.
The present administration has very little to help the situation here and these little "distractions" overseas are evidently just enough to stupify the majority in this country into forgetting that $86 Billion dollars could have been better spent domestically. Hell, screw it, give the effort $86 billion as long as you give $86 Billion to retrain all of us people you care so little about. You can wrap yourself in the flag all you want CAD, you are still an ugly, self abosored typical republican who only cares about themselves and their "kind". What is a little more deficit spending when it comes to retraining all the people you so desparetly wish to see out of work.

You're right, it doesn't mean anything because being out of work sucks. But if all you do is spend your day online crying about how there is no work, then perhaps your situation isn't as bad as you make it out to be.
The fact of the matter is that you are faced with the stark reality that you may have to relocate, reinvent yourself and make changes to find employment. Rather than doing something about it, you come here and cry. Boo hoo.
You say there are no jobs. I can open my local paper and see atleast three full pages of jobs. If you want to work so bad, which I don't believe you do, try coming here.

You really don't have a clue do you? If you'd quit blubbering on and on and read some of my posts(like in the other thread) - you'd know that I DID MOVE to find a job - so you can take your ASSumptions and put them right back where they came from.
YOU are not a realist - you are an alarmist - just like our friend Dave. All you can do is wail on and on about the bad - and totally dismiss the real news as "temporary". READ the article - it isn't just temporary jobs, or just lowpaying jobs. I bolded it for you in the previous post. You ASSumption that payrolls increased while unemployment claims lowered - means nothing is absurd. The numbers are heading the right way - I'm sorry you continue to ignore them.
Oh, and keep your whining about the Iraq stuff in the other 100 Iraq whining threads. You seem to be getting desparate if you need to bring that up to help bolster your position that the economy isn't getting better.

Note to self, anyone who has a US flag as their avitar is an a$$hole. Check. Retard, I said I stopped looking for work about 2 years ago. I am no longer looking as I am pretty happy with what I do from home. I make decent money when customers can afford to pay their invoice and sorry but fvck you, don't really care to relocate at the present time just because you tell me I should. You are the cry baby! Seems like you have just as much free time on your hands to post here you hypocrite. But that is pretty much all your little mind can spew anyhow is boo hoo rhetoric.

I promise you, if my # comes up and I'm out of a job, that I likey have 2 jobs lined up (albeit at lower pay) based on my relationships with previous employers.
My sympathy is reserved for those that are spending their time looking for a job, not bickering about the #'s and how rough their situation is how they just "pwned" a (employed) person who has a different opinion than them. I'm just shocked nobody wants to hire you. Take a look in Moonie's mirror.
