Undying is 17 years old, takes 18 hours to finish

I can’t really do a poll for this one. I last finished Undying in 2007 and I decided to replay it. This is one of the greatest games of all time and one of my favorite games ever. I’ve literally finished it nine times now.

I ran it at 2560x1440 + 4xTrSS at a constant 80FPS gsync. The graphics still look quite nice despite their age:

  • Excellent level design at the Covenant Estate, the alternate dimensions and time travel also add really nice variety.
  • Exploring dark nooks and crannies is always rewarded, your character can still get stronger right until the end of the game.
  • Awesome dual-wield weapon/spell combos, highly original implementations like phoenix eggs (piloted guided missiles), skull-storm (tri-barrel rocket launcher), electrified spear guns, and a living dragon that fires ice grenades.
  • Really nice atmosphere and creepy sound effects, differing death animations depending on the enemy that kills you.
  • Great story, characters and voice acting. The in-game journal is always interesting to read.
It’s a real shame the game never got a sequel or a modern source-port.

Not only did I buy this game on release (and still own it.) but it was then and will most likely remain my all time favorite game experience. It was wonderfully done.
