Undocking Excel 2007 Windows

So I've had Excel 2007 for a few months now, but I recently noticed that when I have multiple spreadsheets open I can't seem to view both simultaneously in different windows (they seem to cascade within one Excel window rather than in Windows XP). In addition, when you close one document, it closes Excel altogether, forcing the other spreadsheet to quit as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated- it's getting annoying when I'm cross-referencing two large spreadsheets.

Under Excel Options / Advanced / Display, is Show All Windows in Taskbar checked?

If you go to the View tab you can click Arrange All in the Window group. That will give you several choices (tiled, cascade, etc).

As for closing one document and that closing Excel and all other workbooks, I don't understand. In previous versions, click the X in the very top right (application title bar) would cause Excel to close. That has been changed so that it now closes only the visible workbook. You have to click it once for each open workbook to close them all. Once there are no open workbooks, clicking it again will close Excel.
