"undhandled exception"

My friend has a problem with her laptop.
Stock compaq laptop, no oc'ing, no mods whatsoever, no games.All updates installed. No viruses.
Every restart as soon as you get into windows a message pops up:

Unhandled Exception: c0000005
At address: 100016b8

I close the box. then sometimes a windows report error thing pops up:

PromulGate Universe must shut down..... yada yada yada........

I did a search, about 5 people had the same problem but no one found a solution. ie: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=34&threadid=901291&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=arc


edit: updated drivers, ran perf/maint hard drive clean up, defragmented drive, scandisk

PromulGate Universe must shut down..... yada yada yada........

I believe that PromulGate is Kazaa-installed spyware. My recommendation is this:

1. Download Ad-Aware/SpyBot and scan her computer.
2. Uninstall Kazaa.
3. Install Kazaa-Lite.
