Using light pipes to capture insolation from the roof and bringing it down to the aquarium and distributing it with a series of fixtures would be interesting. If you're north of the 30th parallel you'd probably need supplementary lighting in the winter months due to the shortened photoperiod. Severe lightning storms would be funny too as the tank would flash when lightning flashed outside! :laugh:

There are a few people on reef central that have done this, it looks pretty cool. They do have supplemental lights installed, but I guess it really cuts the costs during the summer months.
