Undervolting with Linux?

anyway to undervolt centrino cpu's with Linux? i'm using Ubuntu 5.10 and when i used windows, all i had to do was use NHC to undervolt. is there anything for Linux?

thanks.

Haha, I just noticed that we have like the same computer. Is yours 14.1" or 15"? How do you like the screen size and overall footprint size and weight of your thinkpad?

it's a 15 incher:Q

i don't about you, but personally i love it. after a lifetime of using windows, i decided to give Linux a try, i've never used it before, and decided to try it on my thinkpad since i reformatted it only weeks before. let me just say...WOW. this OS is simply amazing. i'm loving it and doubt i'll ever change the OS back to windows on this. as for my gaming pc, well, that's staying windows 🙂

the weight is pretty damn good to, i do go mobile often, e.g. to the couch er something lol. the other time, it's sitting at my desk. i really wish i knew how to undervolt in Linux as it was easy in windows, and i got way lower temps. the foot print is great, i've opened the thing up to see what the full cooling system looks like as i've never seen one posted of an R50e on the internet before, i'll post that in a lil bit.

Nice threads! The pics are looking good, and the fan utility thread looks really sweet too. I think I'll try it out and silence my fan.

The 14.1" and 15" innards look just the same. As for my R50e, I have to say, while the screen half and keyboard half are individually well built, when I have my notebook closed, there's still a bit of creaking because the two parts don't seem to make a perfect match. The footprint is exactly the same as a 14.1" T series, but it's quite a bit thicker (by about 0.3 or 0.4") and heavier (not quite something you'd pick up with one hand). Windows predicts 4.5 hour battery life if I unplug the laptop, turn the brightness down, and let it sit there for a moment. (1% wear on battery, about 22 cycles) This is after doing the undervolting and device manager hardware disabling tweaks.

Thanks for the resources! Good luck finding out about undervolting in Linux 🙂
