Underrated band thread

Aimee Mann's my fav. I love her voice. New albums coming out this year. Olive's totally underrated. Only two albums. Fleming & John is another fav of mine.

Yes, I know the thread has been done before but it's a classic.

I'm going to go with someone that gets perennially overlooked...

Aimee Mann

Runners-up: The Sundays and Olive

a man after my own heart! and I am secure enough in my masculinity to state so!! 😛

the sundays are absolutely my most favorite band ever. 3 albums and I wore out at least 2 copies of each.

Never heard the other two but you can bet I am gonna track some tracks down!

thanks

oh my contribution (along the lines of the above mentioned bands)

innocence mission.

The Roots.
BlackStar to an extent-critically acclaimed, yet not the biggest sellers.

Not a fan of Necro and such-music a little too out there for me.

(where's anxi when you need him🙂)

You might like Kate Bush. try Hounds of Love

LOL, yes, I know Kate Bush's music well. I'm a bit older owned her albums back in the days when they came in vinyl. I didn't want to name too many in my OP though so I'm glad you named her in your post.

probably not your cup of tea (cause you're so damn old!!), but see sig

you might like "Bowl Of Oranges" or "No Lies, Just Love" more. By the same band.

I've listened to Bowl of Oranges, reminds me of Simon and Garfunkel (don't think of that as an unflattering comparison), and looking for the others you mentioned.

Knockout Greg & Blue Weather

Click on the Audio/Video link. Apparently he's testing his new website and has a whole CD up there.

These guys are Swedish and rock! Greg is one of the best blues-harp players in the world. Who'd have known Swedes could play the blues?

LOL, I'm not THAT old, just 35, of course in here that might make me ancient, but it doesn't mean I can't groove on anything that's less than a couple decades old...

That being said, here's another I'd consider an underrated fave but from a completely different genre, The Aquabats

Definitely agree on Aimee Mann and Kate Bush.

Concrete Blonde - Mexican Moon, Bloodletting are both excellent CDs.

Some songs: "Darkening of the Light", "Tomorrow Wendy", "End of the Line" (Roxy Music), "Mexican Moon", "Everybody Knows" (Cohen), and everything on the Best Of

One step beyond! Sounds like a ska version of TMBG 🙂

For some reason they make me think of now semi-forgotten 80's legend Oingo Boingo -- most people know of "Weird Science" and "Dead Man's Party" but they did so much more good stuff. Best CD introductions are Boingo Ailve (ASIN: B000002O8E) and Farewell (ASIN: B000002G4W).

If you like acoustic guitar, try out Leo Kottke. "6 and 12 string guitar" is his first (sorta) and maybe best.

I addition to The Shins (just discovered them and am in love) and Face to Face, which have already been mentioned, let me add Floater and Strapping Young Lad.
