Howdy,

We're looking to fence in our yard to keep the dog in. After getting a many thousand dollar quote, we're looking for alternatives. I never really considered the invisible fence type thing sbefore but our neighbors have one and it works pretty well.

Does anyone have one and have any opinions on it? I've seen ones selling for hundreds of dollars at specialty shops. I've also seen ones for $100-$200 at places like Home Depot.

Just looking for general opinions and personal experiences with them before I go buy one, install it, and find out it doesn't work well. heh.

my parents' neighbor had one installed. they made the dog go outside and run into the invisible fence so that it would learn the boundaries, i guess. but now the dog is afraid to go into any part of the yard. it probably associates the yard with getting zapped. i'd just be careful how you train him/her.

Our neighbor had one installed and if the dog became really distracted ie needed to chase that rabbit down it would run right through the thing zap or no zap. After seeing that we bit the bullet and got a split rail fence installed around the non-wooded portion of our yard to keep our dogs in.

I know they have ones with different levels of "correction" which is good. My dog doesn't need much or she'd probably freak out. We have a big yard and she' rpetty good about staying in it but not enough that we feel comfortable just letting her out there without us because she'd end up 3 houses over in no time.
