how is it compared to getting a wisdom tooth pulled out?

I did the wisdom tooth thing twice

Wisdom teeth are way worse.

I've had both, several root canals actually. My teeth are 'soft' and several cracked 2 happened in my sleep and I don't even grind my teeth. 3 root canals, and one I need to go in and get done. Couple hours in a chair, couple days of mild soreness. The sensitivity of the decaying tooth is way worse than the post-root canal pain.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth out while I was awake. That was 1000x worse.

Seriously? I've always been under the impression that root canals hurt way worse. I had my wisdom teeth out 5 years ago, and I made sure they put me under for that. It wasn't so bad, and the Dr. gave percoset for the pain.

Seriously. I had 50 codeine with THREE refills for my first root canal. Made some good money off that in high school, never needed a single one. The first day after my mouth was sore enough I didn't chew on that side but by the third day it was perfectly normal.

I like my ceramic crowns way better than my normal teeth too.

Mine was just with a shot of novacaine.
Just a little soreness for a day.
They gave me a prescription for something, but I just took some advil and it was fine.

Exactly. Needing a root canal is much more painful than having a root canal.

I guess the good news is, you won't have to talk or do anything else with your mouth to continue talking with your AT friends. :)

P.S. Gargling with peanut butter will not help. ;)

I still got my bottle of percos from when I had my teeth out. Didn't use any.

I took one, and felt so woozy I decided I wouldn't take anymore. I still have the other six somewhere.

How much do these things cost? My girlfriend need sone and she said she would rather just have it pulled for 2 reasons.

1. She is afraid it wll hurt a lot.

2. She said they quoted her close to 600.00 dollars after the insurance coverage for the root canal and only like 165.00 after insurance to have it pulled. I think she said total cost for the root canal was like 1000.00-1200.00, but the insurance covered like half of it.

wtf?
Mine was 700.00 for the root canal AND a permanent crown.
My insurance at the time paid half so it cost me $350.

Root canals do not cause infections. They seal it off so nothing can get inside.

I had 2 shots of novacaine for mine. Couldn't feel it at all. It was a little sore for the rest of the day and that was it.

Actually I just saw the paper with the quote on it. It was actuall more like 1600.00+ the insurance paid like 900+ and she would have to pay like 600+. They also quoted her like 625.00 just to pull the tooth anf the insurance owuld cover about 460.00 of that.

Are those numbers expensive? They seem high to me, but I don't know much about dental costs.

Uh nevermind, I was misunderstood what she was saying.

The cost for the root canal is only 625.00 she would pay 165.00/

The total of like 1600.00+ I gave you was the total for the root canal and soem other works she wants to have done later. So just forget what i said.

It's not that bad........... it's when the root gets infected before you get the root canal the it hurts like a son of a b!tch.
