Underclocking for Non-Fan Heatsink on Athlon 1 ghz

I remember seeing a Celeron 300a overclocked with some massive Alpha HS with no fan.

Does anyone have a link for a non-fan HeatSink athlon CPU setup?

I'm speaking primarily because of Sound concerns..

Not likely but you never know. You don't have to have a screaming high output CPU fan on that processor anyway; especially not on a 1 GHz. You could use an SVC GC68 which would more than cool your processor at relatively low noise. Stick a panaflo L1A on it (same site) and you are only out ~ $10.00 or so with hardly any noise at all. You probably wouldn't hear it over you PS and it should do the job.

That HS also comes with a fan that is fairly low noise. I suggested the panaflo as an even quieter alternative. You might also lose some extra cooling by going to a lower output fan. But, for a total of $10 with the extra fan (plus shipping), it's worth trying.

you might be able to pull it off by undervolting and using a large hs like and alpha 8045, thermalright sk-6,ax-7,slk 600 or slk 800
what's your case fan set up?
panaflo 80's and 120's are nice and quiet (esp. with a baybus) and move a decent bit of air
i personally lean to all copper heatsinks, but then i also lean towards big nasty fans
but i think if you combined undervolting with a ig hsf it'd be posssible

I have an Antec KS-188.
One of the sides is off right now. I don't have any intake or outtake fans, just the PS.

I was looking at Alpha's website a while ago, I went back and found this:

check out the alpha 8045 ..that hs you've linked to has a tiny base...29x31x55mm tall...the 8045 is 80x80x45mm tall, and the 8045 has a copper plate in the base
that skinny tall one looks like a fiery cpu death to me, and you'd most likely have to mount it using thermal epoxy, cause most standard style clips are designed for hsf's with roughly 60x60 mm bases
BUT... in order to run the cpu passivelly cooled and stable at the same time, undervolting and a quiet case fan or two are in order
oh..just thought of this one...the zalman cnps heatsink..its an all copper fan/flower style heatsink..designed to be run with or without the fan i think link
it comes with a 92 mm fan on a bracket..but i think you can run it without it
