underclocking Duron multiplier

I have an MSI K7T-Turbo R Motherboard w` unlocked Duron 750 (from OCZ) and had hoped to run it at 133FSB. As per the Anand article I closed the L6 bridges and nothing. Used pencil- no overspill, just no boot or anything. Also tried closing L7 bridges (seperately) hoping CPU might initialize at 133FSB with default multiplier, again nothing. ( not even at 100). Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

:cool

You have to change the jumper on the MSI K7T Turbo-R board from 100MHz FSB to 133MHz FSB. The jumper should be near the DIMMs.

The FSB jumper is incidental if the damn thing wont even get the vid card up. With any change to the L6 or L7 bridges thing is dead in the water. All 4 LED`s on the MSI stay red.

cause without cutting a bridge the best you can do is 7x by making the L6 look like . | | | :

by doing that you probably wont even need to worry about the L7

I was hoping to drop the multiplier to 7X and that bridge config is the one I tried. My point is that I got nothing at all. My starting point would have been 700Mhz and I would have moved on from there. But all I got were 4 red LED`s on the MSI. Any change to either L6 or L7 and nothing. The best I have gotten out of this Duron/MSI rig is about 945Mhz (OCZ advertised 980 to 1050) and that not very stable. Mem is OCZ PC150 @ 2-2-2 with their twin fan HSF.

i dont know how carefull you were (probably you did it right)

but you might want to try again making sure the single bridge on the L6 is totally closed and not shorting against any of the other bridges

and i would leave the L7 totally alone

******* edit ********

also i would leave everything in bios set at default. hopefully the board will then recognize your chip as 700mhz. at which point maybe then you can work with it

*******
another idea, even with the chip defaulting at 7.5 it should be able to initialize if the L6 is totally clean (no bridges closed) and all the L7's properly closed.
the reason is it should have no problems running that few cycles at 1ghz if the default core voltage is 1.85

one other thought 🙂

maybe its the memory that cant run on the 133 bus with the aggressive settings.
just a thought but maybe you could set the ram at cas3

(like i said just an idea, hehehe most likely not the issue, but obviously something is causing it to not post)

I have MSI K7T-Turbo MB and Duron 800. I was tried to make 700 by default so closed one bridge on L6. For first step I left 100 MHz FSB hoping to have 700 by default. However it didn't boot at all. I tried a few times and it's only one bridge. No success. :| Every time I remove connection on of L6 it boots perfectly by default 800. Can anyone explain how they were able to change defaul multiplier in the Anand article. Otherwise I will not be able to have 133 MHz FSB. 🙁
Thanks.

The only thing I didnt do was use setup defaults in the bios. My thinking being that since the PC has been running superstable at 7.5 X 115 & 1.7v for a few months now, 7 X 100 should not require the memory timing or any other bios setting to be changed. Closing either the one bridge required to get 7X on the L6 or closing all L7 bridges to get 1.85V results in only the power supply turning on and nothing else. This was done a few times and it never worked. Probably somthing about the way MSI set up their board. Its all buttoned up and since I hate the Russian roulette HSF clip install/remove (screwdriver and those very fine traces), Im gonna live with it- eventually get an Athlon C from someone other than OCZ.
