Underclocked and undervolted X2 5800 vs

Well I am getting out of PC gaming and am now making my main PC a server. I was wondering what would draw less power and therefor be cooler,

An underclocked Athlon X2 5800+ 89w Processor hopefully undervolted as well at 1GHz

vs

A Low powered Sempron underclocked to 1GHz or less?





The PC will mainly be used for a fileserver so I can access my files through a wireless network. I figured I dont need an X2 at 3GHz sucking up power.

Whatever is cheaper. The power savings are unlikely to ever match the initial investment

LE-1250 Sparta 2.2GHz: $30

I'm thinkin' you could get it down to .8v and maybe 800MHz ... IIRC .7v'ish won't play.

Depending upon all your other components you may easily reach less than 30w (total system) at idle.
