Under what circumstances would you not give 2 weeks notice when quitting?

I would give a short notice if the company has laid people off (they don't give notice) and pretty much had no choice but to go right away for the new job.
My manager would understand.

Under normal circumstances, I would give 2 weeks.

I don't think you guys quite understand how much people talk and how connected any one industry is.

"You'll never work in this business again!" Them, on the phone to me, after I had them served for a civil suit.
" If that means never having to deal with criminals such as you anymore, FINE!" Me

BTW,Not only did they settle out of court, but I had 15 more years in the music business after that, AND worked for the same artist again years later, so yeah, let them talk.

Working construction is a lot different than what most of you do, and while giving notice is preferred, walking up to the boss at 3:30 and saying A"oh by the way, you need to call the hall for a replacement...I'm not gonna be here after today" or "Fvck this...I'm outta here...get my money!" isn't uncommon...and rarely held against you long term...

I did that in November. It was not working out, and my previous employer had been ringing my phone weekly to 'see if I was busy'. I told the outfit my old employer had made me an offer I could not refuse.🙂

- Unethical business practices
- If I know the company just sucks, and/or they don't deserve a 2 week notice.

agreed on all.

keep in mind.. iirc if you quit without the notice they dont have to give you your last paycheck

at least in ohio o.0

Hrmmmm.... do you have any reputable links to back that up? I was advised contrary to that very recently (in Ohio).

Yeah... I really don't think they can refuse to pay you for time you've worked. They might be able to not pay you for unused vacation time (not in Califoria of course, where they have all sorts of laws to protect people from themselves).

IIRC employers in Ohio are not required to pay out unused sick or vacation leave balances, but are permitted to do so if they so choose.

I don't know how they could get away with not paying you for time worked though, that's contrary to federal labor standards.

I was hired by a company once and came in for an hour of training my first evening. They told us at the end of the hour that we needed to come in the next evening for four hours more training and that we wouldn't get paid, but we would get pizza. I left and looked up labor laws in Michigan. It turned out that companies must pay for training. I filed a complaint and got a check a few weeks later for an hours pay. I never went back, of course.

2 weeks notice?

I quit my job last week and I'm being paid for 3 months to sit at home. I was escorted out of the building when I gave them my resignation letter because I have a new job with a direct competitor

This is Belgium btw

It looks like the US labor market is a tad more flexible 😉

bottom line, don't burn any bridges
