yesterday i replaced a 8800gt on one of my f@h rigs with a gtx480. this box has a 470w,26amp on 12v rail ,pc power and cooling psu.
evga says minimum requirment is 600w,42amp on 12v rail.

the box ran fine for about 2 hrs. then shut down, i rebooted ,after 10 minutes it shut down again. temps on the card were under 80c,computer runs off a ups .

i rebooted and it has now run for almost 24 hrs, sucessfully crunching 15 wu.

is there any possible danger running this card on lower then recommended power?

Of course, there's always a danger when using a PSU that is less powerful than recommended. You've already got a feel for what can happen, surely it's not a good idea to continue using the same unit. You should buy a new PSU with around 40A on the +12V
