Hey all
Just read this article in maximumpc.com.

During his speech, Nvidia?s senior vice president Dan Vivoli let slip that Nvidia intended to ?launch new hardware to coincide with Crysis? launch.? Vivoli didn?t elaborate, but the rumor mill has been predicting that Nvidia would ship a new top-end GPU right before the holiday shopping season, just as they did with the GeForce 8800 last year.

Looks like GeForce 8900 GTX will be out in November, not some useless new mid-end card !
Obviously, nVidia will never confirm it officially, as people will stop buying 8800GTX cards.

WOOT, I hope this is correct, I have until Dec 19 to STEP UP with my EVGA 8800GTX and I WILL DO IT.

Err, we already know nVidia is releasing new hardware but it's mid-range (8800 GT).

Nowhere did Vivoli state it was high-end. It could be but that article doesn't provide any evidence.

Heard about 'reading between the lines?'
He was talking at a Conference hosted by EA where the Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli was also present.
You don't talk about Crysis and mid-end cards in the same breath , you know.

I'd agree that the statement above doesn't lend itself to a new '8900GTX ULTRA' type of card being released, there have been rumors for the last month that the new Nv card is a G92 based 8800 GT or a revision of the current 8800GTS with 112SP both of which can be considered as a 'top end video card. As far as Crytek is concerned, the 8600 is a 'next gen' DX10 class card that can meet the minimum reqs and thus be 'pleasurable gaming experience' when in fact, as far as we can tell that would not be the case (relative to previous gen hardware outperforming it). My point is the just because a Crytek CEO is attending it, doesn't mean its something to launch a new super high end video card from.

Sandman, you`d better hope it`s mid-range. If not, I`m gonna come over there and make you pay for ruining my Sunday with that news.

I`ve been an Nvidia man for some years now, but just yesterday I ordered a new 2900pro because I was so sick and tired of waiting for any announcements and was impressed by the POTENTIAL of the 2900pro.

I would agree that it`s too soon to panic, but God I hate Nvidia sometimes.

It will be confirmed ONLY when these cards are available for purchase.

Don't get over-excited until you see them in stores...

It seems to me that if you're going to put "CONFIRMED!" in your thread title there ought to be actual confirmation and not just "reading between the lines" as one poster put it.

Is that a real marketing strategy? 😵 If everyone buys 8800GTXes now, most aren't going to sell them in a month just to get a 8900GTX

Too true

Are you a woman by any chance..... I find most women I am acquainted with quite illogical and frankly your logic SUX bigtime (No offence intended).
If everyone knew for CERTAIN that the 8900GTX was going to be launched in November, only a fool or an illiterate would buy a 8800GTX in October !!
This is only common sense, but apparently common sense is NOT so common !

You have a problem with women? I suggest you edit this post. And read the forum posting rules and guidelines before posting again, thank you.

lol @ sandman, hes a women hater !!! But for real, dx10 performance has been sucking big time, only a 8800gtx can get REAL playable framerates in dx10 mode, so either Crysis is optimized so well that I can get good framerates with my 8800gts 320mb with a lot of dx10 eye candy, and that means a new 'mid-end' card would be usefull, or nvidia has to come out with some real serious processing power for people to play Crysis in it's full glory ...

This doesn't say anything we haven't already seen. All it indicates is that MPC is behind the times with the Inq/Fud rumors. 😛

---------------------------------------------------

I took this statement to have been aimed to the Crytek CEO as an assurance that something powerful enough to handle Crysis would be released to the mainstream (>$200) gaming community.

Right now, the vast bulk of gamers who would be picking up Crysis are running on 8400/8500/8600 series vid card. Crysis would be a problem even at low settings and this is a concern for Crytek. An 8800GT would be within more people's budgets and could handle Crysis fine at high mid settings depending on resolution.

Nvidia stands to make a killing by holding on to new tech for a bit longer and make a killing as people upgrade those crap mid-range 8X00 cards to play Crysis.

<<"During his speech, Nvidia?s senior vice president Dan Vivoli let slip ...">>
--if it was really a "slip" he'd be fired by now
[---i find it also strange that this 'bit' took so long to get to the 'mainstream' HW news]

imo, nvidia is trying to stir "excitement" with a calculated leak to capitalize on Crysis's launch 😉
[betcha]
it's a nice try ... their fans are excited
--- or bored out of their skulls with GTX DX10 performance 😛
[as AMD fans are]

I don't really see anywhere that says this is high end. In fact it seems to me that Dan Vivoli is directly pointing to the 112SP 8800 GTS because it's an affordable card (relatively) that makes Crysis very playable (relatively, if 25fps is playable).

I don't believe nVidia is planning on losing a ton of money competing against themselves just b/c a new game is looming in the horizon by making their entire stock of 8800s from cash cow to fire sale. It makes no fiscal sense. Why would they release a $700-800 video card so a few people can play Crysis? He almost has to be referring to the new 8800 GTS.

Heres the pic of the 8800gt if you want it

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/8286/index.html

So this card is going to be in between the 8800gts and the 8800gtx preformancewise?

I really cant see Nvidia just releasing that single card in november, because the ATI 2950xt will beat the 8800 ultra and Nvidia arent the kind of company that sits back and lets ATI have the performance crown

My guess is that the 8800gt, and an 8900 card will be released which will be a dual slot and all the pipelines unlocked and it will probably be named GTX or Ultra

It will be below the GTS and the 640 GTS will now have 112 shaders according to the rumors. GTS 320 will be discontinued(EOL). So if anybody wants a 320 they should probably buy now. The GT will be slower, so you will either have a choice of a slower 256 or 512 card or you will have to spend more and get a 640. Performace at $300 is actually going down. This is comparison when OC'd. A OC'd GT will probably be close to a stock 320GTS....allegedly, we'll see for sure in 3 weeks.

I thought the 8800GT is going to be priced at $200 and $250 for the 256 and 512MB versions, respectively. I wouldn't be surprised if the 8800GT is released with 96SP/256bit , while the 8800GTS will be 112SP/320bit.

Sandman took this literally off a magazine. While every single news on the web is telling us that it is 8800gt.

8800 gt is supposed to be very close to but slightly less than 8800gts. the 8800gts is getting a perf boost to help differentiate it from the 8800gt, in fact, because the 8800gt is supposed to be much more mainstream price-wise. if nvidia comes out with an 8800gtx replacement before next year many many people will be surprised.
