If that thing had acceptable wheels, it would the best looking car out there. PERIOD.

I think you're in the minority.
The most popular wheels these days are the black ones with polish lip.
It grew on me, I bought a set and I love it.

Pics?

They're also the ones that were stolen when his Si was ripped off the other week:(

I suppose if I were buying a car with the intention to sell it in 2yrs that might be a valid concern.

Things have changed. Hyundai is now considered one of the most reliable brands, behind Toyota and Honda. I get a reliable car with an excellent warranty to boot.

There's just more car than the tC. I get a 2.0 liter engine, more cargo space, ABS, Traction Control, side impact air-bags, for less.

I've thought about it a bit. Yes, the tC has a bigger engine and is more sporty, but my head almost hits the roof.

Well, at least your insurance will drop faster since the value of the car depreciates so quickly:p

I bet you Hyundai's resale value will be much better now that it's considered the third most reliable brand of car.

Will be, but resale values and brand perception don't change overnight. I do agree Hyundai is on the up and up though.

Nice car. I was impressed with what you get for the money. I did like the tC when I drove it, but I was surprised at how good the Elantra GLS was. The engine is pretty peppy even though it's 30hp less than the tC.

The GLS 5-Door also has the European Sport suspension, and traction control/ABS ($1100 option). That is something that the tC can't compete with for the money. Side airbags are also standard. Still comes in at >$2k less than the tC.

Hard to resist that much stuff for the price. I wish I could go with the tC, but I can't bring myself to do it.

One thing you might check. My friend drove his buddy's Elantra GT (I think his buddy was wasted) and said that it was pretty lethargic with 4 people in it. It was a stick to boot.

Was it before '04? Hyundai bumped up the engine from 1.8L to 2.0L in '04. They also replaced the automatic gear-shift for '05.

The '05 GLS Hatchback is essentailly the GT without the leather seats for $1k less.

Well, definitely was more then a year ago so that may be part of the explanation.

Interesting. It just shows you how American car makers are in trouble, as far as the <$20k market goes.

Outside of the Focus I don't think they're competitive. Now that Hyundai and Kia are coming up they have some serious problems.

The thing looks like ASS!!!!

Dash

No wonder the thing is so cheap. Look at the interior on that thing, still stuck back in the early 90's. Secondly, the Elantra GLS doesn't even compete with the tC and nobody would cross shop them anyway. Someone wanting a 2-door coupe (well, it's actually a 3-door hatch) isn't going to cross shop with a 5-door hatch. The tC competes with the Civic Coupe, Civic Si, Hyundai Tiburon, Acura RSX, etc.

The Elantra GLS 5-door for the most part competes with the Scion xA and xB

And another thing, Wag, you should be comparing the tC almost directly to the Tiburon. Same class size class, same engine class, similar features, both 3 door hatchbacks.

Comparing the tC to the Elantra GLS is about as whacked as comparing a Celica GTS to a Scion xA

They are not so far apart. Most people compare by price and features. That's why the Mazda3, Elantra, Civic, Corolla, Scions are all considered in the same class. They are all basically econo-boxes. The 5-Door is becoming very popular.

So would you consider the Mazda3 in the same class?

The widebody lime green one looks great, till u see the front and the rear, then it looks kinda nasty, if you mate the widebody with the trd front and rear, with the greddy turbo....omg hotness...i'd keep the wheels on the limegreen car, cept i'd change the color to gold and change the color of the car to red or black.

They're in the same price class, but if I were looking for a 2 door coupe, why would I buy a Mazda 3? You can compare price/features all you want, but someone who wants a Scion tC is not gonna cross shop with an Elantra GLS. A Tiburon, yes...but not an Elantra.

That being said, the Mazda 3s and Scion tC are on a totally different plane than the Elantra GLS. In total overall refinement, NVH, interior quality/materials, etc. It's not even close.

As for who competes with who, the official competitors (you don't get any more far apart than this):

Scion tC:

Honda Civic Si
Hyundai Tiburon
Mini Cooper
Saturn Ion Redline
VW New Beetle

Elantra GLS 5-door:

Ford Focus ZX5
Scion xB
Scion xA
Suzuki Aerio
Toyota Matrix

It's not even a good looking car to begin with, ditch that STUPID front end and it might be semi attractive.

yea, and the tc beats the pants off of the tiburon.. u'd have to have a hefty discount to even consider the tiburon. quality/engine/features etc... the tc is lexus-lite:p

i like the pic of the green one.

any pics of the supercharger?
