The maximum resolution and refresh rate made me hold off.

Good find - would love to have a 17" LCD screen at that price.

Maximum resolution is typical for a 17".
Contrast ratio and viewing angles are the killer for me - seems like an older model.
Also, some competitors offer a 3-year warranty.

I thought refresh rate on LCD's doesn't matter, only the response time?

besides the resolution/brightness/contrast ratio...

Admittedly, I am not an expert on these (which is why I'm in the market for one.) But is refresh rate utterly irrelevant? 60hz is lower than several of the other models, and certainly seems low.

Refresh rate on an LCD is completely irrevelant as LCD panels are not refreshed like CRTs. A CRT, for example, redraws the screen lets say 100 times a second at 100Hz. An LCD, OTOH only changes the parts of the screen that actually change between A and B.

For LCDs, rise and fall are important. Refresh rate only controls how quickly the LCD controller checks for changes as to what it should be displaying. 60/second should be plenty fast enough, as it is much, much faster than 15ms which most people consider to be blazing fast when it comes to LCDs.

AOC and ENVISION are the same company, I think. Envision LCD is pretty good among cheap LCD monitors.
