Unbelievable. Wal-Mart is just...... huge beyond imagination.

I assemble from as many US components as possible, then I patronize my LOCAL Comp. supplies / service vendor, who employs MY FRIENDS, and buys his parts from his vendors. Just like in the Economics 101 Class.. I also refer my friends and clients there as well.
So, I am not teh sux.
That would still be Wal-Mart. 😀

I browsed over the prices at that site, and from the couple products I looked at it seems that he's charging 50% than for example Newegg.com. So should society reward people simply for the fact that they're local? If you can't compete, you go out of business. That's how capitalism works, and that's what has given the US the grossly extravagant lifestyle that most of the world hates us for.

They possibly arose out of necessity: we see a snake but we don't have time to decide if it's poisonous or not, so we react as if it is poisonous. It is the safest thing to do. But today, we are not allowed to treat a snake as if it were poisonous, just because it looks like one. We have to give it a chance. And if that means it bites us, that's the price we pay for living in America.
False.

We do not have to give anything a chance. As much as something has the freedom and the right to look like a snake, that same freedom grants those around it to view the snake however they want.

The kind of America you're describing has no place in the world. That's a society that would reward snakes for being poisonous, and penalize everyone else.

Maybe what I should have said is that we are not legally allowed to descriminate against someone because we think that they might be a poisonous snake. Most people think that blacks are violent, either from personal experience or the picture that the media portrays, but because of someone's preconceived notion of a black person, they can't simply refuse to hire them. They are supposed to either give them an equal chance based on merit, or yield to affirmative action. I suppose in your heart of hearts you can think and feel what you want, but you're not supposed to base your actions on that feeling. Atleast in areas where it is legislated against.

Snakes aren't rewarded for being poisonous: once it is revealed, they are punished. As it is with rapists, serial killers, theives, etc.

The reason so much manufacturing is leaving this country is because goods made here are more expensive than the goods in other parts of the world. Simple economics 101. Are you willing to pay twice as much for an item just becuase it is made here? When we find a method to be price competitive, you will see more manufacturing done domestically.....
Well, actually, I will pay twice as much for something made here in the US.
I always look at the label.
I do not buy simply on cheapest price.
I have found that, quite often, cheapest price is not the best quality.
Quality does count as far as I'm concerned. I've written US manufacturers when I've found a product that beats one made here.
I want my money kept in the uS where , hopefully, someone else may benefit from my purchase. It might even be one of you reading this thread!
Goods made here are more expensive because, rather than moving the companies profits into increased standard of living for all concerned, corporations view the workforce as an expense line item to be reduced in order to increase the standard of living for the few.
I submit, that a more motivating factor to productivity is pride in one's job. When the "Corporate Master" strips the worker of that, they are simply just another part of the machine. And as such, subject to failure just as any machine part would when used beyond it's ability.
The next worker's revolution will come from the third world.
Most people don't appreciate being taken advantage of and as they learn of their situation, resentment is sure to rise. That is never good for productivity. There are only so many third world nations left to exploit. When they run out of them, then what ??

Then the world becomes competitive again. Price goes up as does product quality and quality of life in third world countries.

What you seem to miss is that that margin he makes is what he's entitled to make for his service. THAT is how capitalism works. The fact that someone else only wants the best price is THEIR choice , not mine. I don't want to be forced into choosing between lowest priced pieces of crap. 'The lesser of two evils is still evil."
I would rather help employ someone who will be there when I need some question answered or some help or service that Newegg.com is not in the business for, nor do they have any real interest in building a Merchant / Client relationship. THAT is how a Free Market Economy works.
If you are of the position that "Price is King" then we will be on opposite side of the fence. I was responding to the person who accused me of
Do you order your computer parts online or go to the local seller and pay twice as much for the part?computer parts = stuff you mean
Online computer parts sellers = the death of Small Town economics
You is teh sux.
Low priced Crap = Still Crap.

We're getting a super Wal-Mart here. I don't think they'll make that much money for the first few years considering there's only 7000 people in the area.

I would imagine they look at demographics in a manner similar to an atomic blast damage chart with radiating rings of "impact".
I was surprised when they put one in Anderson , S.C. Small town on 83 between Atlanta and Charlotte
Come back a few years later and there's TWO of them and the original is now in a vacant mall area that was developed around it.
The new ones are on opposite ends of town to accomodate both SC and GA residents.

I know but it still seems weird. It's not like there's big cities anywhere around. We're the largest county in Washington and we only have about 35,000 people total. But I guess you could say "If you build it, they will come."

I live in somewhat rural central Nebraska and we have a super wallmart, and they are just starting to get one of their distribution centers here, a great boon to our area. Jobs start at $11.00 with full benifits and choice of hours and rest days.
We had 4 pretty big grocery stores here that were owned by the same persons and have been ripping us off for years and Wallmart has really hurt them and at the same time made it cheaper to feed my family, their workforce is friendly unlike other stores here.
They also sell some things I make in my garage for me, a great store with smart management.

Bleep

Let us pray that some day Target wipes Walmart out.

Walmart is crappy. Their stores are only nice when new. Target simply owns them.

Not that I'm biased...

China will never stop being a third world county. It's a communist county. If workers revolt in China, they will be shot and their body parts sold on the organ market.

As for the Walmart they will buy more and more of their goods from China. Consumers speak with their wallet and the numbers show that most people shop at Walmart.

I think in the future there will be 2 kinds of stores. Walmart and the stores that sell what Walmart doesn't sell.

#1 on Fortune 500... revenue only (not including how much goes out in salaries for all the employees, etc. Still outstanding.

The only thing I never understood is how a big chain like that with 2 well-known competitors (Target / Kmart) could move so far ahead of the others...

Wal-Mart in general ROCKS b/c of their low prices. But one thing KILLS them in my eyes!!

25 registers with only 5 or 6 open with a store full of people = MANY PISSED OFF CUSTOMERS!!:|:|:|

I hate checking out at Wal-Mart. Aside from that, the store is fine. I just hate that they have 33 checkouts at our local Wal-Mart, 4 are open, and the lines are huge. I hate wasting time in a queue.

Don't have to be able to do much of anything except wave...you can always be a greeter 😀 😛

(No offense intended towards any wal-mart greeters, of course..)

Oddly enough, there isn't a Walmart around where I live. Westchester county in New York has almost 1 million people, and the nearest Walmart is 20 miles away from the center of it! 😕

I dunno man...I just don't like that place. Their prices may be ok, but the stores are just crap...nasty places...

i have to say that i really hate that place (WalMart)...every time when we have to go there for some reason it seems there are exclusivly people shopping right from the ghettos and/or Mexicans with their whole families incl. grandma and grandpa and kids screaming.....this place creeps me out !!!

I think the success of Walmart is definetly a sign of our bad economy (more poor people all over) since WalMart might be one of the cheapest places to shop.
People will buy there where it's cheapest.

Oh and btw. (at least here in IL, chicago burbs)...the WalMart parking lots are known to be a very dangerous place, muggings, rape, fights...etc..

WalMart == DUMP ! Avoid whenever i can...
