Alot of people don't know it - they think it's some kind of magic formula. I get this a few times a year from friends and family - looking down through the chain of forwards - or sometimes in the problem statement somebody gets excited about finding some "magic formula" that all phone number conform to :roll:

I didn't think it was a magic formula. I just think it's a neat thing to show people who don't understand the math behind it. It's great for kids!

Gee...let x be the first three digits, and y be the last four digits:
(250(80x+1)+2y-250)/2 =10000x+y, which is of course your phone number.

Geez, do you even know math?
 
Let me shorten it up for you...

1. Take your first 3 numbers of your phone number (not your area code) and multiply it by 10000
2. Now add your last four digits

Ooooooo, does something look familiar?

Whop-de-friggen-do. Enter in all 7 digits of your phone number and the calculator gives you the number back. This is stupid.
