Is that why I sometimes find ONE of the item I'm looking for, only it's in a different section behind something else that looks similar? I thought BB just screwed up. Sorry if you came back later and wondered who stole it.

Well, there's tomorrow.

What about the $55 instant rebate, isn't that only good on the Fri morning sale?

You'alls are too funny with all the hiding stuff in weird places...

How about we all get some practice for next year... Hide some stuff around best buy during easter time and we'll throw a little video card easter egg hunt... see who finds the most hidden stuff. =)

I brought mine technically after 12 noon(as I was in line before noon, but not rung up until after noon). But the rebate states it is valid for purchases made 11/28 - 11/30.

Got the GF4 Ti4200 still intact in my hiding place, hid it Wednesday 5:30 p.m.

Used a 10% off coupon found in Maxim 2002 issue (page 117). CSR rung me up incorrectly. Should have been this way.

$144.99 - 10% = $130.49 X tax = $141.58. She took off $10 instead of $14.49. :|

But she did it this way.. $144.99 - $10 = 134.99 X tax = $146.46. :frown:

Final price = $146.66 - $55.00 + $0.37 stamp = $91.83.

to everyone that gets sales info early, goes in days before the sale and buys items only to return them for a price adjustment on the day of the sale:

thanks for screwing everyone else :(

imo, it is not in the spirit of the hot deal forum to do things like this.

Woohoo... bought card Wednesday, went into store tonight (Bridgewater, NJ) with receipt and 10% coupon from 11/18 Sports Illustrated... told them I wanted to do a return/rebuy not price match due to the rebate timing, and to apply the coupon. No problems at all. Came out to ~$130 plus tax. Hot deal! :D

PNY GeForce 128mb AGP 4 Ti 4400 for 89$, no rebates necessary.

Without getting into a long story, they sold this to me because they told me they had the other card from the special in stock. they had to match the ad price to make it a comparable sale match.

But from checking out the benchmarks, its not much faster than my oem ATI 8500, or is it?

I am thinking of building an HTPC( a pc that upgrades DVD's to an even higher res for tv) for hi res dvd playing and using it in that or selling it or trading it for a 9700 of some kind.

Opinions on it vs. my ATi 8500, speed and feature wise or which is better for an HTPC. I read somewhere the drivers for the GeForce cards are MUCh easier to use in HTPC's when customization is required as ATI's drivers are a bear.

DVD playback performance on ATI cards are generally (much) better than Nvidia cards. If I were you I'd use the 8500 in the HTPC and the 4200 in your regular PC for its superior 3D performance.

One big thing that only ATI currently supports is overlay gamma adjustment which is is why ATI cards are the best for HTPC. For good info on HTPC building: www.avsforum.com

Just think about the people who hid stuff and then didnt go back and buy it....

There may be a few people who bought a 'floor model' oven or other such appliance, only to find it loaded with goodies on the inside :)

It's been that way for years. What do you think HawkeyeNJ posted adds EVERY week for? I don't know when he started doing it, but I think it was longer than my tenure here.

BTW. I went in last year at about 11AM, looked for the GF3Ti and they had none, looked behind things all over in PCs and TV sections, then noticed 13 (they were obligated for 15 so a few others noticed) of them stacked neatly behind the the computer sales desk. That was a good deal in its day.

"the educated classes and states are being swept along by a huge contemptible money economy...." -- Friedrich Nietzsche

You guys are nuts. I made the mistake of going to one of these crazy sales once before and swore I'd never waste my time like that ever again to save a few measley bucks. I had no idea what to expect (naive me). They had to get the police because two women were fighting over a TV. People were throwing DVD players into their baskets like madmen.

My sanity is far more important to me than a little bit of savings! Good luck, though, to those who enjoy these sorts of things...

UPDATE! I JUST GOT ONE! 10:15PM EST! YMMV Of course.

I was just at Best Buy about one hour ago AGAIN - for the second time today. I went after waking up late this morning at 8am in search of the Ti4200 card. They said that people who were even in line this morning when the doors opened, some didn't even get one! I was walking around not really in search of anything this time.

Before my eyes, I saw the Ti4200 card in a shopping cart with a bunch of other "Hot Deal" items! Someone must have misplaced it or returned it or something! I bought it, and it runs beautifully! For those still interested, don't let your hopes up! The deal DOES go through tomorrow, if you can find one!

Again, YMMV, unfortunately.

Well, I got mine! But, not after some trouble.

I ordered mine, on Wed, online for store pickup. Went in and picked it up today, and had to deal with a CSR who felt a little annoyed that I wanted to return and rebuy the card. Well, it was taken care of and I went home with my brand new card. Or so I thought... The first thing I noticed when I took off the shrink wrap was that there was some Best Buy tape over the openings. Then I popped open the box and saw that the DVI connector was just rolling around the box without any plastic on it. Hmm another odd thing. After about 5 minutes of having the card installed, there were some strange artifacts. So I reboot, and my computer makes some strange farts and nothing... Turned out I had gotten a returned card that was sold to me as new. I was a little pissed off since there weren't anymore cards at the store I went to. So I decided to take the card to another BB to exchange... hoping that there were more cards there. Keep in mind that this was around 8pm, so I figured my chances were slim. To my surprise there was ONE card left :-D It was behind some Radeons.

Whoever picked that hiding spot obviously wasn't too bright ;) So off I went with my new (for real this time) and working card. Now it's working and speeding along quite nicely. I tried a little overclocking but didn't have much success. Had it at 300/560 for a while. Eventually it was too hot for my system, as it crashed after a few hours of running Earth and Beyond. Hopefully it'll do better once I stick some heatsinks on the memory.

Thanks for the deal Wizards23. Sorry for doubting you before... you rock man :)
Now comes the wait for the rebates...

As for the heatsinks on the memory...test have been done that show that there is little to no improvement on the cooling. Some showed that it even caused worse cooling performance. I'd reconsider that step.

I thought I'd share my experience trying to get in on this deal this morning. Rather than post what turned out to be a short story here and upset everybody I decided to post it in off topic and link to it here while also giving the synopsis. I was seventh in line and did not get a card.

Got one at Secacus NJ store around 4:30pm. They had piles of the video card.
Encountered a few sales reps, managers and cust. service people who had their brains grown on the wrong end of their bodies.

Bought the Kingston 256MB RAM, the BFG Video Card, and a 120GB HD (yes the one for $99, gonna do a AMEX BVG since the damn manager is too anal about it, I had a confirmed in store pickup order on Sunday for $99 and they refused it)
Total comes to around $380.

The F%@#$%&*ing Mofo CSR applied the 10% coupon from SI 12/02 on the RAM, and did not apply it towards the Video Card and the HD. I was hesitant when he handed me the receipt for a total of $348.97 Argued w/ the Cust Service, the Sales Rep, and the Manager that 348.97 is not 10% off $380. They told me, "yeah you're getting something off, so either take it or leave it." I will definitely fire off a letter to BB corporate, their f@#$ing GM at the store can't work out whats 10% of $380.

P.S. Here's a contact name and address for anyone wanting to write to BB:

Brian J. Dunn

Isn't that against the law??? Yeah, I had the same experience with some RAM i bought a mth ago. I ordered in online and picked it up in-store (well, I returned it anyway). We should definitely do something about that. This is not ethical.
