Unbelievable CPU temp change?

Before I installed a new motherboard, used a different thermal paste, and FOLLOWED the thermal paste instructions, my CPU temps were 50C idle and 59C full load. That's with Artic Silver 3. My new motherboard is a Aopen AX4SPE Max II and I used the new Artic silver 5, in which I put a BB size amount on the CPU. I didn't smear it around on the chip like in the past, but this time I just pressed down on it with the heatsink and gave it a twist to the left and right.

After I booted and checked out the CPU temps I was in floored. The temperature was 38C idle and 47C full load. At first I didn't believe that was the right temp. But I checked it with two programs (Sandra and Everest edition) and the temps are correct. So the conclusion is use Artic silver 5 and follow instructions to a T. I swear by it.

Put a BB size amount in the middle of the CPU and DON'T SMEAR IT AROUND. Place the heatsink down
on it but don't push down hard. Push down lightly and give it a turn left and right. Then put your clamps on. Try it this way you'll be surprised.

there are tons of variables here... good on u that u r running cooler, though... the bb-sized glob technique is certainly superior to a bad spread job, and even a good spread job if u get wiggly or cockeyed installing the hsf...

I used the BB method with AS3 on my A64 and temps seemed hight to me. I then re-installed using the old thin even layer method and my temps dropped 4-5C. I'm running 36 idle, 47 full load while o/c'd now.

Interesting, are there any articles that actually compare cooling compound application technique?
