Unban questions from a game

I'm in a rather odd situation that I need help with. Obviously only ut2k4 players would know this, so here's hoping someone here was a server admin awhiles back/still is. So I was playing ut2k4 a couple of days ago till I was banned for some unknown reason. I emailed the server admin about the problem, couple of days pass and he emails me a reply and says:

"Please send me your ip address and I will see. You can get it by visiting whatismyip.com"

Now call me crazy but since when did anyone need an IP to unban someone from a game. Especially ut2k4, I've seen situations where players were unbanned by just giving there usernames. But why does he want my IP? Is it save to give him my IP so he can unban me? Is there something about ut2k4 unban system that I don't know about? any inputs would be great. thanks in advance.

Just give him your IP.

You can ban either by ip or by guid/user id. ip ban prevents you from comming back with other accounts. Just give him your ip if you want teh ban removed.

I admin a UT2k4 server and we use the webadmin to administer all bans and kicks. The webadmin only bans by user IP (at least our version of it) so if I were to unban you, I'd need your IP in order to do it.
