Unauthorized microwave use

How about you put the microwave in a safe? You can put a hole in the safe so that the power cord can go out, but only big enough for that cord. 😉

Keep several ketchup/mustard packets taped to the ceiling of the microwave, when you are not using it.
When food is cooked, the water in the packet with super heat, and the packets will explode, spraying ketchup and mustard all over their food.
Unless the unauthorized users are jacking the mike to cook hotdogs this should be very distracting.

What kind of ghetto ass place do you work for where there is different divisions, but the business doesn't supply microwaves?

Fuck, we are only 30 people here and we have 4 microwaves, a toaster, and a pizza oven all supplied by the company.

Your employer needs to buy them a microwave. Honestly, what workplace doesn't have a microwave these days?

This was my first thought as well.

I don't understand why you're calling them cheap for using "your" microwave. It's not like you actually paid for it with your own money. The money came from the company. Despite being in different divisions, you guys still work for the same company. Why don't you get some work done instead of brooding all day over "unauthorized" use of "your" microwave.

Because they've bought into the "you vs them" mentality the manglement fosters in order to keep labor from concentrating their focus. Divide and conquer is the lesson of the day.

Hmm. I thought camaraderie was more useful.

Turrets from Portal plus security cameras from Duke 3D.

Just make sure you don't have the turrets across from one another so when the shooting starts they don't knock each other over.

Cut the microwave cord in half, and wire up a new set plugs but in reverse on the ends (so the microwave will have a female plug, and you are left with a male to male cable).

New cord ends will cost you at most a few bucks at the hardware store, and are very easy to wire up.

Keep the male to male cord in your posession and everyone else will be stuck with no way to plug in the microwave.

That's what I was thinking. Simple and inexpensive.

Where he keeps the cord is up to him.

No. This is against code, a shock hazard and a fire hazard. NEVER EVER EVER make a cable with exposed hot wires.

I love being a blue collar worker and watching office workers duke it out over this stuff!

You can get plug locks from your local electrical wholesaler, basically you plug into a "jig" which you then put a padlock onto. Cheap and effective way to lock people out of using appliances.

But what i dont understand, arent you creating tension between employees with this? Shouldnt the company provide a clean lunch area, and most usually provide a microwave and a kettle. The boss must be a major tightarse.

The link below is a lock out jig for a british plug

Worst case scenario you can set up some claymores around the microwave and clean the offenders off the wall with a sponge the next day. They will soon learn. DONT FUCK WITH YOUR MICROWAVE!

Someone realizes that microwaves use a lot of energy. 1 microwave being used to microwave 20 meals wouldn't draw any attention, but 10 microwaves, each used to cook 2 meals will appear to management to be a huge waste of energy.

really? i had no idea that 100 items microwaved in 1 microwave uses LESS energy than 100 microwaves microwaving 1 item.

whoda thunk it.

LOL.

Why would you microwave one item in 100 microwaves? Would it get awfully hot??

From the looks of it, this is clearly an IT issue. Have them lock it down using fingerprint + RSA key. That should do it.

You sound like every boss I've ever had....🙁

tsk tsk. you arent managment. really sometimes im amazed at the ideas that would come across my desk.

For only $125 a day, I would be willing to guard your $50 microwave. Of coarse I would require 2 coffee breaks, a 30 minute lunch, and a way to heat,-- my,--, oh never mind.

Your company should supply the microwaves and the cleaning crew should be cleaning the microwave. Even small start-ups I worked at, offered that.

This.

What kind of fucked up company sets departments up for battles over microwaves?
