Unauthorized Charge on my Card

Damn, somebody charged $1000 from my VISA checking card yesterday. I called my bank and they told me it is obviously from an online casino. I never even went to an online casino.

The word dispute, comes to mind, and waste no time lad. BTW, if you did this, it can be proven, so just be sure you did not. 😉 Your credit card company should have no problem nullifying the charge, if that is what happened. Contact them immediately!

Yes, I talked to them just a few minutes ago and disputed the charge. They are investigating now (6-8 weeks!?). The only thing I played online that comes even close to a casino was dominoes at pogo.com.

<< Would really like to know how they could get my number. >>

Used it at a restaraunt (ie it left your sight when someone else had it)? pogo.com or whatever get hacked? Does pogo.com use good encryption?

My bank called me today about a $60 charge on my bank card from an electronics store in canada. I couldnt figure out what it was so while the lady was talking about what was going on I thought about it. I remembered a charge I made with the card from a place in ca, so it wasnt a big deal. Scared the heck out of me though.

Looks like you may have been had via, spyware or a backdoor program, which can infiltrate and steal personal info from you computer. Do you know what a firewall is? Maybe you should start using one. Zone alarm is good for most private users. Free too, for private use! Most people, who do not use a personal firewall, have several "exposed" ports on their PC. From there, people can use a number of ways to obtain info from your drive.

Thanks but I am using ZoneAlarm for about 2 years and AVG AntiVirus for about 1.5 years.

n0cmonkey, pogo.com is free so they don't have my CC number but I ordered stuff from so many places online, maybe one of them got hacked.

Yeah, its possible it got picked up from that. It is seriously possible to pickup credit card numbers in a couple seconds without someone realizing it. A waiter walks away with your credit card. Its out of your sight for a minute or more. Plenty of time to get enough information to play around...

I'm not sure how your cc was compromised, if it was stolen locally (restaurant/taxi) or over the internet. I would definitely call your bank immediately and dispute the charge, request that they cancel and close that debit card and issue a new one, you might also want to get a new checking and/or savings accounts, just in case they have your bank's routing number and acct number. They'll probably send you an affidavit which you will need to fill out and have notarized then mail back to your bank.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER use a debit or check card for internet purchases, only a credit card.

I got some fraudulent charge on my CC too but it was for $14.95 in the form of Swiss Francs. I think the person was guessing $14.95 would be overlooked but the Franc thing kind of stood out.

Well, I can only use a check card. I am an International student here in the U.S. and it is rather difficult to get a credit card without being allowed to work (= no job) and without any US credit history at all. I got a CC from my German bank but if I order online the system does not allow me to use it since my billing address then would be in another country. Works fine over the phone though.

After checking my account online again today I saw 3 more charges totaling $2924.00 with the other one. I called them and they will send me a new card and I will also get all my money back. Good that VISA is offering zero liability even with check card purchases.

Did anybody ever had a problem with those companies here? :
