There's no reason to work with the merchant who is charging you. Tell your credit card company you didn't authorize it and let them deal with it.

This.

I don't understand what all the confusion is about.

How are they going to even charge him if he canceled his old card? Lol.

This is what I don't understand: Your old card is invalid, won't work, burkaburkamohammadjihad. Yet you are like, "OMFG YOU CAN'T HAVE THE NUMBER NOW! YOU COULD LIKE... DO NOTHING WITH IT."

This. Just give them the number numbnuts and they'll clear the charge. Jesus, it's not that hard. In the least, they can track down the asshole that opened up a fraudulent account on their website.

I had a fraudulent charge from a credit monitoring service of all places. I called them up and told them I didnt authorize it and to remove it. They stated they would need a signed copy of a police report to do a chargeback.

I laughed and told them I'll dispute it at my bank, fuck all that police report stuff.

They could easily investigate what IP the charge originated from and who has opened a profile on their dating site. Clearly, it isn't him and any reasonable business would refund him his money back. The worst that can happen by trying is them not clearing the charge; and if they don't, then go to your bank but it will take longer to get your refund.
