Unattended installs of Windows XP are beautiful

I formatted and reinstalled XP today, and along with having an unattended OS install, I've also set it up to install my favorite programs on first boot.

It's a beautiful thing.

In the interest of learning, I won't answer any techical questions. I learned everything I know from MSFN's site and have been working off and on (i.e. very little time) on my unattended image since the middle of August.

🙂

Yes. Yes it is.

/me licks his XP Unatt disk

Edit: Actually, there's some stuff mentioned on that link that I can't do yet :Q

I must learn.

I've actually found that RealPlayer (the later versions w/out spyware and taking-over-your-system-fuctionality) is actually a very nice and unintrusive program. 🙂

I've done similar...

I've taken a screenshot of my desktop, with all sorts of game icons, and set it as the background on a couple of computers at work, and people were like "WTF, I have Red Alert 2 on my computer?" ... Then they didnt understand why the icons didnt work...

yea, though i still feel bitter from their past versions and actions the new one doesn't take over stuff unless you let it. plus got no choice with stuff like npr archives, cartalk.com thislife.org whatever streaming audio.

i just tried it, but dont see much use for it as ghost/truimage backups are more handy for most cases.

Unless you have multiple machines with incompatible setups.

you would have to make different versions of installation disks in that case (for drivers and such, same reason why they are incompatible to begin with) making this less useful in comparison. things like defragging the paging file take a good bit of time too, which is why i find ghost images better for saving time and trouble.

Your Java package is already out of date. Which brings up why this method is useless for most people: I update my software far more often than I reinstall windows. After 6 months (assuming that's how often you reinstall), there's a good chance that there will be newer versions of most of that software by then.
