Unable to set AGP 4x

Now I want to reduce my AGP setting from 8x to 4x, because I suspect it is causing my frequent game crashes, however, I'm unable to do so in SMARTGARD. I'm currently using a radeon 9800 pro with omega 4.8 drivers. Under smartgard, i can only either change it to 8x or 0x, the rest of the options are blanked out. Im wondering, how do i change my card's settings down to 4x?

Try changing it in the BIOS.

the amount of addressable memory that could be used by the video card if neccessary ... usually keep it at 64 or 128

For systems with 1GB of memory does this still hold true? Someone once said to put it at the same amount of memory that's on your video card, in my case 256 (which is what I have it set at now)
