Unable to run Windows Update?

I am IT support for our company, and I have a user who has been unable to run Windows Update for some time now. The error she receives says that she doesn't have the ActiveX control to run Windows Update. It never gives the option to install it. It used to give the option, and when you would install it, the same error would pop up. Now it doesn't even try.

I have disabled her pop-up blocker, checked her IE add-ons, made sure she is running the latest (full) release of IE (I don't want to bump her to the 7 beta because she uses encryption certificates and wasn't sure what the implications were), checked through the advanced IE options (nothing differs from mine), her security level is fine... I am running out of ideas!

Is this for an in-house machine? If so, why not use SUS?

If it's for a personal computer (shudder), why not have her use Firefox with the IE Tab extension? That way, she can at least run Windows Update, even if she chooses not to switch browsers.

Have you specifically checked her security settings to verify that active x has not been disabled?

Just a thought and worth the double checking.
