Unable to resintall sound card drivers after attempted uninstall

I have a sound blaster audigy 2... I installed the drivers from the CD and figured I would download the latest ones. So I go to uninstall the ones from the CD and I get some sort of error halfway through the install. "Unhandled Exception.. description: an event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers setup will be terminated." So now I cant even go to add/remove to remove these files without getting this error. When I attempt to reinstall the drivers I get the same thing. What do I do?

Going into windows via safe mode, and then removing the software, may solve the problem.

Don't forget to remove it in the device manager. Good luck!
