Unable to remove Vista and install XP Sony VAIO FZ140E

Hi,

I ended up buying a Sony VAIO FZ140E which came with Vista. I was not expecting to face any problems and I inserted my genuine XP CD in the DVD drive and started the system.... Everything appeared to be working as it does when you are installing XP on a new machine UNTIL i got a windows which basically said that no internal drives can be found... and press F3 to exit.

Am I now stuck with Vista? I don't want it, hate it, and want XP on my Laptop. Can someone PLEASE help.

You need drivers probably sata drivers for that board, see if Sony has them.
 
Can we ask why you hate Vista, its basically an improved XP. If you want to run Dban or some other non MS OS I get your post, but I've found most XP is better than Vista posts are just lack of experience with Vista... (Curious...)

Well, I guess we all are entitled to our individual likes/dis-likes. BUT to some extent I would give some weightage to your point regarding "lack of experience" with Vista.. I personally found the interface and everything to be extremely different AND confusing.... Anyways....


Can someone help me get hold of the SATA drivers..I checked Sony's site but could not find it. Maybe I was looking in the wrong section(s)?????

If Sony's site doesnt have it, I'm not quite sure where to look. Perhaps you could identify the controller from device manager, and search for drivers by the manufacturer.

But the interface in Vista and XP are extremely similar...I can't see how you find it confusing if you've been using XP. The 30-60 minutes it takes to install XP should be more than enough to familiarize yourself with any small changes.

The primary thing I find annoying about Vista's interface is the UAC prompts. But you can turn those off.
 
BTW, is it true that except for the premium/professional version, there is a limit on the # of windows that can be opened at a given time in VISTA Home version?

Absolutely not...that would be absurd. Thats a limitation of the "starter" edition, which you'll pretty much only find in third world countries - you couldnt get it here if you wanted to.

UAC is the window you see popping up asking you to confirm things that you do which might hurt your system, such as messing around in the Program Files folder and installing things that require Admin privelege. Despite some of the people around here, it's a good idea NOT to turn it off unless you actually find it really annoying: it's protecting you from something bad going on, like a website trying to install system-wide malware.
