i tried reformatting my hd yesterday (catastrophic failure, machine won't boot into windows anymore) with the gw operating system disk i had (windows xp). early in the process (preparing windows installation) i receive the following error message:

the specified setup script file (C:\Temp\XPP.t) is inaccessible or invalid

contact system administrator

then the reformat/reload stops and i'm dead..

any suggestions--i'm trying really hard not to have to call gateway given the total disaster it's been in dealing with them. thanks in advance!!

thanks for this!!

i'm very cognizant that it may be a bad hd. in fact i got some error messages (before it wouldn't even boot) that sounded like it was having a hd problem.

what i'm trying to do is eliminate software as an issue before going out to get another 160gb sata drive...

the question is whether i can run the diagnostic on a machine that won't boot into windows?? i'll have to check it out.

I think you'll find that you can. The ones I've seen are bootable diag proggies. No need for windows.
