Hi, All!
I wanted to back up some files on RW media, but have been unable to format my Pacific Digital 74 min CDs. I downloaded the latest DirectCD update (3.03a) from Adaptec but am still unable to format any CD-RW disks. CD-Rs format fine.
Thanks, Stutz

What speed is the CDRW??? Also what speed are you trying to format at??? These have to be alike... Some early CDRW`s (media) were only 2-4X so you might have to change the format & write speed of your burner...

Hi, Bartman, and thanks!
The CDRW media is 4X, and I set the burner speed to 2X. It works its way about half way through the formatting process, then reports a 'write error,' and stops. Works very well with CDR media, which leads me to believe that there may be something amiss with the CDRW media itself. I have formated them on another burner, an Acer 4424, and they have worked, but no joy with the Iomega.

Best,

Stutz

Hummm...??? Might be time for an RMA if it is only getting 1/2 of the way through a format (they tend to get very hot while formating a CDRW). Sorry to hear that but it may be good you found it if you have warranty left on the CDRW...

Good luck... :)

I had the same problem with some cheap media especially the Memorex. DirectCD is very picky about CDRW media quality. Some people reported switching to DirectCD 5.0 allows formatting CDRW without problems. You can also format the CDRW with Packet CD (WinonCD) and it will work with DirectCD as well.
