Help I have just installed XP on a friends pc but I cannot access the 2nd hd, It shows in "my computer" but I cannot browse the drive.

History
the pc was running ME ( ugg) and both drives were accessable
the drive shows up as NON DOS in fdisk ( win 98 boot )
the files are accessable with the 98 boot disk

no alterations have been done to the hardware

Thanks In advance

not 100% on the XP menus here, but try this... Right click my computer, then select manage. There should be an option for disk management... See if there are two disks that register there...

So your saying that both drives show up there? Then make sure they all have drive letters and check if all the partitions are good.

yes they all have drive letters and show up with the boot disk.

its seems that me had not formatted the disk correctly giving it a non dos status

fixed by repartion and format

Thanks for the input

I can almost GUARANTEE you that its under sharing/security!

go in there and make sure that you have given rights to "yourself" the administrator (I hope that he is loging in as admin to do this stuff) and then try it.

I had the same EXACT problem w/ a laptop drive on a desktop. It was not allowing me into the laptop drive b/c it had it's own OS on it still and remembered it's adminstrator, so I had to take owner ship and give my self full access to get to it...even though it showed up in mycomputer! 😉

God Bless
