Un-wanted Quicktime etc ???

While web surfing I click on a link to view a film trailer -

Pop up says I need Qucktime, click here to install, but I decline by clicking 'x' to close...

This morning I find Quicktime linkage in my Start/Programs menu, (plus an entry for PRINTME INTERNET PRINTING)

plus regClean shows a registry entry 'Quicktime'....and a new 'Core' entry

These are of course not the programs, just linkage to the websites to get them.

How in the Sam HIll Blue Blazes does this junk get on my computer ??? (some weeks ago I undertook the tedium of setting security for Internet Zone and TRusted Sites - apparently that got changed maybe by Microsoft during patch downloads (?) )

Now have security set for active x/scripts prompts - Will this keep this garbage out? (very tedious)

btw How in the h*ll do these companies expect to generate good-will by this sort of subterfuge? Like I'll ever buy anything from them.

Well, a firewall will help a lot (Recommend Zone Alarm, Free, find on Google). You can install the Google tool bar which includes a free Pop up stopper ore buy a Stopper program. I don't have links handy, but find on Google and download both SpyBot S&D, and AdAware. D/L, run the updates first, then run the programs. Any spyware these programs find will be safe to delete. Download a 30 day free trial of Registry Cleaner, type Quicktime in the search block, and it will bring up all registry entries for Quicktime for you to delete. This step should get rid of the links. I have never had a problem with this reg tool, but you should probably back up your registry first.

You'll find that the firewall will keep a lot of Spyware from getting through. I realize your problem is not from spyware, but these are ways to keep comp clean.
