UN School in the US Refuses to Fly American Flag

What is up their butt?

David Sherzer, 17, a native of Spain, said the U.N. school is being "too politically correct" to avoid alienating families who may have anti-American views.

Oh boy if that's the only reason that's Pathetic.

What am I missing? To me that seems like a useless article - there are two flag poles and this school is flying neither US or UN flags. All the article shows is a picture and a bunch of baseless ramblings by people. Maybe drudge could have tried to contact the school? Perhaps whoevers is in charge of flags is sick? Perhaps the flags are getting washed. Perhaps the flag ladder is broken. Who knows?

At the bottom of the article: UNIS Director Kenneth Wrye defended the school's no-flag policy.

"We're not an American school. We are a United Nations school. It's that simple," Wrye said.

The point is they are in this country. Unless they are doing this to the rest of the schools in different coutries (which I HIGHLY doubt) its nothing but American Bashing.

I have some toilet paper with the UN flag on it. It will be up my butt after I finish my coffee.

Well if there isn't a law saying that a school has to hang a US flag this school doesn't.

Anyway why aren't they flying a UN one as well? who knows

Very simple solution here. Revoke the school's charter.

Skoorb, it's not that they aren't flying the flags, it's that they won't fly the flags. It's not like the school normally flys the flags. From the article: "UNIS Director Kenneth Wrye defended the school's no-flag policy. 'We're not an American school. We are a United Nations school. It's that simple,' Wrye said.".

Do you have a flag in your yard?

I'm not a school enjoying Tax money from my host country either.

Well that's my question too - do schools have to fly flags legally? It's not like they're flying an anti-american flag.

"It's cowardly. What's the school afraid of?" asked the parent, who requested anonymity for fear of retribution.

😉

but yea they should fly the damn flag. why not?

You sound like you've read the article, jackass.:disgust:

Did the UN school ever fly any flags? and if not, why is it an issue now? The article makes it sound like the UN school never flew any flags. If we are going to force them in the name of 9/11 (a horrible event that is now fully 6 months past), we should have done it at a more appropriate time. Schools have more important things to worry about than a parent bitching about a flag, like the actual students. And in the case of the UN school, where students come from many different countries the decision to not fly a flag makes sense.

Whether he does or not is irrelevant here since he's a private citizen. Find me a school in America (other than the UNIS school) that does not have an American flag flying somewhere on campus and then you have a comparison.

They were flying them. Why take them down?

And I'll bet you money this isn't happening at UN school in other nations.

LOL!!

Then get the hell out of America. Duh.

In this country, we fly American flags at schools -- so fly the American flag on pole #1 and shove pole #2 up your PC @$$. :Q

There are 2 flagpolls. The school has been there since 47. Its inconceivable that they never flew the American and UN flags.

We have the damn Canadian flag up in our hockey arenas up so we can play Oh Canada! when some Candian team shows up.

I say we send in the SEALS, take the school, and raise our flag.

well.... i thought it was kinda ironic 🙂

i don't see why these pricks don't just raise the flag. well actually i do. they're not flying an anti-american flag, but their refusal to fly the american flag is more or less a "screw you" imo, by whoever is making this decision. they should be kicked out.

Come on, you have to admit that an anonymous person calling someone else a coward is kind of ironic. Anonymity is just a screen, even though I technically agree with the parent, they really should have had the courage to put their name to their views.
