i played a couple games of warcraft, went to eat soemthing, came back and was surfing the forums (couple hours later), and this warning came up that my pc was gonna shut down in 60 seconds.. that i need to save all info etc etc.. and that it was a norton Anti virus program or something. I don't have and never have installed norton or any other virus scanner on my pc. And i havnt dl'd anything in the past day that i havnt been aware of. I rebooted and went back to playing wc3 and it did it again 20 min later. I'm on my pc now and it hasnt done it yet. Anybody know what this is?

it just shut down on me again with AIM/mozzila running...

should i try a system restore?

it says it was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM

windows must now restart because the Remove Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectiedly..

Any ideas? wtf is a RPC?

i actually just did a fresh install and havnt done sp-1 yet. Think a system restore would recover anything so i can update?

Not if he gets shutdown before downloading stinger.

The first thing to do is pull your network cable. Then enable the XP firewall. Then plug the network cable back in. Then clean the existing virus(es) and do ALL the windows updates.

I don't have and never have installed norton or any other virus scanner on my pc.

Any particular reason why? I use AVG which is a very good, free, virus scanner (if you don't feel like paying - link).
All my windows systems have a virus scanner on them, even though they are behind a firewall... I don't think I'd ever run a windows system without antivirus software, but if there is a compelling reason not to, I'm open to it (less stuff running at start-up, for one thing).

cheers!

i did all the widnows updates(including blaster) , seems to be running fine now

ps - thanks for all your replies =) <3
